Search and Recovery
Have you ever dropped something in the water? Are you looking for lost “treasure”? Underwater Dive Center’s Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course will teach you effective ways to find and recover underwater objects.
During your course you learn search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and problem solving. You learn how to locate large and small objects using search patterns, and various ways for lifting them to the surface. Not only do these skills make you more capable and confident in the water, but most Search and Recovery Divers eventually end up searching for and recovering something they lost themselves.

What You Learn…

- How to use a lift bag and other recovery methods
- Limited visibility search techniques
What You Need…
You will use the basic scuba diving equipment, an underwater compass and a lift bag.
The Learning Materials You Need…
PADI Search and Recovery Diver Book (included in the course fee).
The book includes everything you need to prepare for your course. It includes a search pattern reference guide, knot-tying diagrams and an overview of how to organize a search. The video, which will be viewed during your classroom portion, provides additional information on performing search patterns and how to plan a search in variety of conditions.
Prerequisites…
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or Junior Advanced Open Water Diver (or have a qualifying certification from another organization)
- or Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification WITH PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty
- Be 12 years old
